To generate your BodyGraph you need three pieces of data: date of birth, exact time, and place of birth. With that information, planetary positions are calculated and translated into a diagram that has three main elements:
The Centers are nine energy points on the BodyGraph, similar to the chakras. Each one represents an aspect of your life — identity, emotions, intuition, communication, life force, willpower, inspiration, pressure, and drive. When a Center is "defined" (colored in the diagram), it means that energy is yours in a consistent way: you can always count on it. When it is "open" (white), it means that in that area you absorb and amplify the energy of the people around you. Open Centers are not weaknesses — they are zones where you can develop profound wisdom if you learn to observe that energy without mistaking it for your own.

The Authority is your personal mechanism for making correct decisions. It can be emotional (waiting for the emotional wave to settle before deciding), sacral (trusting the gut response), splenic (following the intuition of the moment), or other types. The key point is that the best decisions are not made with the mind — they are made with the body's intelligence.
Additionally, your BodyGraph has Channels (connections between Centers that represent your most defined talents) and Gates (the specific frequencies that are active in your design, based on the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching).

Your Type explains why certain life strategies that work for others do not work for you. If you are a Projector, for example, you have probably felt frustrated trying to compete in energy with the Generators around you. Your open Centers explain many patterns you have carried without understanding why. Your defined Channels and Gates reveal your most specific gifts — abilities and energies that are always available in you, regardless of who is around you. And your Profile describes the archetypal role you play in life — your natural way of learning, growing, and relating.

Is it the same as astrology? No, although it uses similar birth data. Astrology analyzes planetary positions in signs and houses. Human Design translates those positions into a completely different system — Centers, Channels, Gates, Types — that generates an energy map with distinct practical applications. They are complementary tools, not the same.
What if I do not know my birth time? The report can be generated, but some elements will be approximate. The birth time affects the Moon's position and can change the definition of certain Centers or the activation of Gates. If you can obtain it (birth certificate, civil registry), the analysis will be much more precise.
Does Human Design tell me what job to choose or who to be with? It does not give you specific answers about what to do, but it gives you the tools to choose well. Your Strategy tells you how to approach decisions. Your Authority tells you how to know if something is right for you. And the analysis of your Centers and Channels shows you where your natural strengths lie and where the environment conditions you. With that information, decisions become much clearer.
