The analysis is structured in five levels of increasing depth:
Level 1 — Operational type and action strategy. Builders (Generators and Manifesting Generators, ~70% combined) possess sustained execution energy and perform best when responding to environmental demands rather than initiating projects autonomously; the internal difference is the rhythm of progression — Manifesting Generators alternate execution and pivot, while Generators sustain a single focus. Advisors (Projectors, ~20%) lack sustained execution energy but possess a superior ability to evaluate, guide, and optimize the performance of others — their productivity is maximized when they are formally recognized and invited into leadership roles. Initiators (Manifestors, ~9%) operate independently and achieve their best performance when they inform stakeholders before acting, reducing organizational resistance. Evaluators (Reflectors, ~1%) function as indicators of organizational climate and require extended reflection cycles — on the order of a full lunar cycle — for stable decision-making.
Level 2 — Decision mechanism. Each evaluee presents an optimal decision-making mechanism independent of rational analysis. Some make correct decisions in response to immediate stimuli (instinctive decision); others require a period of emotional processing before reaching clarity (emotional wave decision); others need external sounding with trusted individuals (relational decision). Identifying the correct mechanism allows structuring organizational decision processes that leverage the evaluee's strength rather than forcing a single model.
Level 3 — Functional capabilities map. The nine centers of the Functional Map are analyzed as indicators of organizational competencies. Each defined center (consistently active) represents a reliable competency: natural leadership, execution strength, emotional resilience, strategic thinking, communication and influence capacity, pressure management, operational intuition, willpower and commitment to objectives, or vision and innovation. The open centers indicate zones of high adaptability where the evaluee absorbs and amplifies team dynamics — these are not deficiencies but areas of flexibility that, when well-managed, contribute contextual intelligence to the group.
Level 4 — Specific competencies and role profile. The thirty-six possible channels and sixty-four gates of the Functional Map encode granular competencies. A defined channel indicates a specific and reliable competency — for example, sustained concentration ability, aptitude for democratic leadership, talent for innovation within existing structures, or natural aptitude for resource management. Gates without a complete channel represent latent competencies that activate in interaction with complementary teams.
Level 5 — Role profile and development pattern. The evaluee's Profile (combination of two archetypes) predicts their professional learning style, their interaction pattern with teams, and their development trajectory. Some profiles indicate deep investigators who need to master a subject before acting; others indicate experimenters who learn through trial and error; others indicate networkers whose effectiveness depends on the quality of their professional network.
Certification ecosystem. The system is supported by two international training entities: the International Human Design School (IHDS), which certifies Analysts and Living Your Design guides, and the BG5 Business Institute, which certifies BG5 Certified Analysts and Career & Business Analysts for corporate application. The official calculation and registration platform is Jovian Archive. In Latin America, training is represented by certified analysts such as Andrea Abay-Abay and Zeno Dickson.
Role alignment and development. The Operational Type and functional capabilities map help understand the fit between a person and a role, so responsibilities can be shaped to their natural strengths. An Advisor placed in a pure execution role will underutilize their natural guidance competency; a Builder in a purely strategic role without execution will experience disengagement. The analysis helps anticipate these misalignments and supports role-alignment and development conversations.
Team composition and optimization. The analysis of each member's defined and open centers allows diagnosing the team's functional architecture: which competencies are reliably covered, where there are redundancies that may generate friction, and where gaps exist that the team compensates for in an unstable manner. Group dynamics (Penta) are evaluated to determine whether the team has critical functions covered or needs specific additions.
Leadership development. The decision mechanism, combined with the Operational Type and the center map, allows designing development programs that strengthen the leader's natural strengths rather than forcing generic models. A leader with emotional decision-making needs processes that give them processing time; a leader with instinctive decision-making performs better in environments requiring rapid response.
Succession planning. The evaluee's Profile predicts their professional development trajectory. Some profiles (such as the 3/5 or the 6/2) show professional maturity patterns with clearly differentiated phases — intense experimentation in the early years, consolidation in mid-career, and mastery in the senior phase. This information allows calibrating development expectations and planning transitions.
Change management and resilience. The evaluee's open centers indicate their zones of greatest sensitivity to the organizational climate. In restructuring processes, mergers, or cultural change, the center map allows anticipating which collaborators will be most susceptible to environmental pressure and designing differentiated support strategies.
The report delivers a structured analysis in eleven sections covering the entirety of the evaluee's behavioral profile. It begins with the classification of the Operational Type and optimal action strategy, continues with the decision mechanism, the role profile and trajectory, the complete map of the nine functional centers with their reliable expression and their expression under conditioning, the detail of channels and specific competencies, the contribution purpose (Professional Purpose Indicator), the diagnosis of conditioning zones, and a practical integration guide with recommendations for the evaluee's management.
Each competency is analyzed in its functional expression (consistent strength) and its expression under stress or external conditioning (development area or misalignment risk), providing a balanced profile directly usable in individual development plans, talent review reports, and role-alignment conversations.
This analysis is especially valuable in leadership development for high-complexity roles where standard evaluations do not capture the dimension of energy management and decision style. It is also indicated for team dynamics diagnostics (identification of functional gaps and redundancies), executive coaching programs where an objective framework is needed to complement the coachee's perception, succession planning with a medium- and long-term horizon, and restructuring processes where each collaborator's sensitivity to change is a critical factor.
Does this analysis replace traditional psychometric evaluations? No. It is designed as a complement. Its main differentiator is that it does not depend on the evaluee's self-report — it is generated from objective data, eliminating social desirability biases. The recommendation is to use it alongside tools such as DISC, MBTI, or Big Five to obtain a more robust multidimensional profile.
What data is required? Full name, date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth. The time is important for profile precision; without it, the Operational Type is usually reliable but some specific competencies (centers and gates) may vary. The report indicates when data is partial.
What is the difference between the individual profile and the team analysis (BG5)? The individual profile evaluates the competencies, decision style, and trajectory of the evaluee as an individual. The BG5 team analysis (available as a separate report) evaluates how individual configurations interact in group dynamics, identifying covered functions, critical gaps, and compatibilities. Both reports complement each other and can be requested together.
Is it reproducible and consistent? Yes. The same input data always produces the same profile. The analysis is not subject to variations in mood, evaluee fatigue, or learning effect (test-retest). This makes it a stable indicator that can be used as a baseline in longitudinal evaluations.
Does this framework have independent psychometric validation? Not in the traditional sense of the term. The system does not have peer-reviewed meta-analyses equivalent to those available for Big Five or Enneagram; there are reported correlations with MBTI and Big Five in unpublished studies, and active research lines at the European Human Design Academy.
